Diana Hakobyan

Diana Hakobyan works in different media - painting, sculpture, installation, video, performance. She often uses her own body to create multi-screen visual stories that transmit issues on gender inequality, the exploitation of the female labour, topics that are widely spread in the intellectual and the critical discourses of post-Soviet Armenia.

In her performances, Hakobyan often uses both the structure of the children's play and sports equipment (balls, skipping-rope, simulator etc.) turning these structures into tools of rendering the visual narratives and building the metaphor. Holding strong feminist and gender references the latter reveal the female identity in the triplicate impersonation of the child, the mother and the wife. Those are sometimes presented through relationship, and sometimes they emerge independently.
